Why Make Your Own Vapor Rub?
✔ Natural ingredients – No petroleum or artificial fragrances.✔ Customizable – Adjust the scent and intensity to your preference.✔ Gentle on skin – Great for kids and adults alike!✔ Cost-effective – Make a batch and store it for months.
What You’ll Need
🫙 1 small reusable glass jar
🛢 4 tablespoons castor oil – A great carrier oil that nourishes the skin. I prefer castor oil, but you can use any oil you have at home already, like olive oil (click here for link to buy recommended castor oil)
❄ 2 tablespoons menthol crystals – The key ingredient for that cooling, decongesting effect. Feel free to use menthol essential oil, then you will use 12 Drops of menthol essential oil (Click here for link to buy menthol crystals)
🍯 2 teaspoons beeswax – Helps solidify the mixture and lock in moisture. If you have any chopsticks at home, you can melt them and reuse them to make the Vicks instead of beeswax (Click here for link to purchase recommended beeswax)
How to Make It
✨ Step 1: Melt the Beeswax
In a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water), melt the 2 teaspoons of beeswax until fully liquefied.
🌿 Step 2: Add the Castor Oil
Once the beeswax is melted, stir in 4 tablespoons of castor oil. Mix well to combine.
❄ Step 3: Dissolve the Menthol Crystals
Add 2 tablespoons of menthol crystals into the warm mixture. Stir continuously until fully dissolved.
🫙 Step 4: Pour & Let It Set
Carefully pour the mixture into a small glass jar and let it cool at room temperature until it solidifies.
🌡 Step 5: Store & Use
Once cooled, your homemade vapor rub is ready to use! Store it in a cool, dry place, and it should last several months.
